  As a former hair stylist, I am huge on the customer service experience. Right when I walked through the door, I didn't feel welcomed and I definitely wasn't greeted with a warm welcome especially for a new customer. I just feel that $75 plus a tip is just a bit too much for me to give for a service where the stylist didn't even say hello to me or introduce herself...she just waited for me to sit back in the chair.

  MY Taji Experience,
  So I was in transition trying to grow out my relaxer and hadn't really dealt with my natural hair sense I was a child. I searched for a while to find a salon that specialized in natural hair and that was in my area. And I have to be honest...one reason I've not had my hair done in a while is because I HATE and I mean HATE the age old tradition of sitting in the salon for hours because a stylist schedules one on top of the other. Who has an entire 5 hours to sit and wait for their turn to move from the shampoo bowl to the dryer and then to the stylist chair? Anyways I saw that Taji charged $15 for a consultation and I called and scheduled and appointment. I honestly can't remember with whom but when I showed up I check in and found that the stylist I was there to see was out side chatting it up with some man. So I sat down and waited. Then the stylist came in grabbed a clip board with a few questions on it and asked me basic questions like, "What were my hair goals?" and "How long had I been growing my hair out?" which I answered. After maybe 5 min she took my to the front desk and told the lady I needed a roller set...an $85 roller set. She didn't touch my hair...didn't look at my ends or it's texture (it was up in a tight bun)..nothing. I literally burned my own gas and paid $15 for her to ask me a few questions and then recommend that I spend $85 having my hair washed and put in rollers. Needless to say I declined to the schedule anything there...no I didn't ask for my money back either...and left. It really makes me sad that I have white friends that can walk into a hair salon and get professional, punctual service but I have to hunt and dig through all these black hair salons that want to pay to put up nice web sights and pretend to be professional...only to arrive and it's the same old "let me get you" scam. And yes to charge a person $15 to answer a questionnaire...one that could easily be done online and brought in...not to sit them in a chair and actually look at what kind of hair or it's condition...but just to read questions off of a paper....it's a rip off. And FYI it was a rip off at a first impression. I know women who go to stylists all the time and come home and aren't happy with their service and just gripe about it..but I work too hard and have to schedule hair appointments around too much to waist my time. I don't mind paying good money if I feel like I'm getting my money's worth and no $15 for a quiz and $85 to have my hair wrapped around rollers and sat under the dryer when that set isn't even going to last more that a week (because yes I will wash my hair). It's over priced and not worth it. Sorry. I tried but if there is one thing I hate is having my time and money wasted and being disappointed.
